Parryware grows - thanks to Riedhammer and Sacmi Forni

New shuttle kiln successfully started up at the Perundurai plant

A new shuttle kiln was successfully started up at the Perundurai plant of Parryware, India’s biggest sanitaryware producer. The kiln, designed to fire and re-fire sanitaryware, is the result of smooth technical teamwork between Riedhammer and Sacmi Forni. “This is the first kiln installed in India”, explains Whiteware sales manager Daniele Coralli, “to belong to a generation of modern machines based on technology that is widespread in Europe yet extremely innovative for Indian producers”.

The ‘poor’ technology of traditional shuttle kilns, fully lined in ceramic fibre, has, in fact, been replaced and the inner lining now consists of cordierite slabs. The advantages of this material? “It reduces maintenance requirements”, points out Coralli, “and is non-carcinogenic; another key factor is that it enhances final product quality”. This solution also eliminates the problem of ‘detachment’ of fibre sections, which can cause damage to the product during firing. Finally, the new shuttle kiln installed at Parryware – in which a 50% share was recently purchased by the Spanish firm, Roca – controls all the firing parameters, thus contributing to further improvement of the finished product.

The Perundurai shuttle kiln - the latest success from the Riedhammer / Sacmi Forni team - joins the two tunnel kilns (a type more suitable for large-scale output) already installed at Parryware plants, making a total of four for India. The first is already working at Dewas, where the plant completed an upgrade of the existing shuttle kiln, while the second is at the Perundurai plant.
