SACMI and BETTA Sanitaryware:

Yet another winning South African development

The successful working partnership between Sacmi’s Whiteware division and BETTA Sanitary continues. Everything began in 1998 with an order for the latest high-pressure casting machines and glazing robots. These technologies have yielded excellent productive and economic results, thus leading to plans for the doubling of the capacity of the existing plant. Just recently a new order for Sacmi machines was agreed on; these machines will be vital in increasing the level of automation and boosting output. The third glazing robot has already been delivered and is already up and running and in September 2001 another ALS high-pressure casting bench and a further AVE have been delivered. In the end a total of 9 high-pressure casting benches will be installed. A second tunnel kiln with a capacity of 600,000 pcs/year will become operational by the end of November 2001. In the light of its excellent financial statement, Betta’s shares are obtaining a similar degree of success on the South African stock exchange. In the space of just a few short years, then, the decisions made by Management at Betta have yielded exceptional results. In just three years, in fact, they have managed to turn the company around from a position of productive and financial stagnation to one of consolidation and expansion. Through careful investment in technology and automation they have succeeded in making enormous improvements to quality, pro-capita productivity and profitability.
