In 2014 SAMA, a Sacmi Group company specializing in the design and production of forming technologies - especially extrusion, isostatic pressing, casting and automation – supplied a second extruder for the production of stoneware pipes to Saudi Arabia. This latest machine joins the previous one which has been working at the Saudi customer plant successfully for three years now.
The vertical DSRKE 380 extruder is equipped with electric motors featuring spur gear reducer and multiplier drives. It has been designed for the manufacture of standard and heavy-duty stoneware pipes with diameters from 150 to 300 mm and nominal lengths of up to 2,000 mm.
The extruded pipes are handled by an industrial robot, which picks them from the lifting table and holds them at the finishing station where the spigot and socket are cut and finally shaped. From here, the robot transfers them to the dryer car.
The hard-wearing design of the extruder and the specially configured loading and handling units mean that clays with low water content can be handled in a way that prevents warping of the pipe during handling and finishing.
This SAMA-developed solution is particularly high-performing from a productivity viewpoint: with the DSRKE 380 extruder it is possible to produce a pipe every 40-45 seconds, finishing tasks included. In addition to the new extrusion plant, SAMA also supplied the Saudi firm with all the components for the Griese and Leimer brand extruders.
