Sacmi Heavy Clay introduces new standards to the Touggourt region in Algeria

New Sacmi plant now being installed in Algeria.

Thanks to the strong entrepreneurial spirit of M. Ganouba, renowned CEO of a major Algerian industrial group operating not just in the brick industry but several others too, a new contract for the supply of a major new turnkey plant producing over 200,000 tons/year of masonry brick has been signed. This plant will revolutionize quality standards in the Touggourt region, known to industry experts for its resistance to change.

Sacmi has worked closely with the customer’s technical staff to develop a solution that focuses on medium-to-long term finished product quality and system reliability.

The salient features of the system are:

  • Use of special wear-resistant materials for all the clay pre-processing and manufacturing machines in order to reduce maintenance work and boost production continuity.
  • Storage of pre-processed clay with automatic retrieval to ensure greater raw material uniformity.
  • Use of tungsten carbide alloy extrusion dies, ideal for ensuring correct, consistent product size in the long-term.
  • Hot-galvanised dryer racks and a kiln furnace tunnel made of anti-acid refractory material with 60% alumina content (instead of the classic 20-40% engobe on the surface) to ensure that this valuable equipment lasts a long time and to prevent the usual, extended downtimes needed to restore equipment made of "standard" materials unable to withstand the strong chemical aggression typical of local raw materials.

The plant has also been designed to provide maximum flexibility. It features, in fact, all the latest technologies and controls: these include latest-generation anthropomorphic robots and a dual fired material unloading system (pack unloading and layer unloading with repackaging).

Considerable attention has also gone into ensuring safe working conditions; all moving parts feature suitable safety systems, such as safety cables, photocell barriers etc.
Management of routine and unscheduled maintenance is entrusted to an automatic computerized maintenance system for each production department.

Installation work on this technologically advanced plant is already under way thanks to effective teamwork between the technicians of Ganouba Briqueterie and Sacmi. This facility will set a new, modern standard for Algerian production plants, especially in this region, which is currently enjoying considerable growth.
