Sacmi Heavy Clay strengthens its position in Argentina

Sacmi Heavy Clay has now completed final testing of a key plant installed by one of the country’s most prestigious customers.

Sacmi Heavy Clay, the Sacmi Imola S.C. division dedicated to construction ceramics, continues to make gains on the Argentine market and has now completed final testing of a key plant installed by one of the country’s most prestigious customers.

As part of its programme to raise output capacity, Cerámica Fanelli S.A. - a firm based in La Plata in the province of Buenos Aires in Argentina and a member company of the Later-Cer S.A Group - has now successfully acquired and started up the production plant extension needed to raise net output to 1300 tons of masonry brick a day.

The completion of that extension consists of the mechanical and electrical upgrade of the cutting line to adapt it to the new wide-outlet extrusion system and allow efficient management of the higher output rates. Improvements have also involved a doubling of drier car loading/unloading machine capacity and a major upgrade of the kiln car stacker programming line, all fully integrated with the latest software to allow the manufacture of a broad product range and achieved format changeovers simply by recalling set ‘recipes’ via the control panel. The new plant is also served by an integrated robotized cell built by Gaiotto Automation, the Sacmi Group automation specialist.

To allow smooth management of new output rates exceeding 25 drier cars/hour, Sacmi Forni was also commissioned to build drier two-head load/unload transfer units, again with variable head-to-head distances for maximum flexibility.
Sacmi Forni also extended the capacity of the continuous tunnel drier tunnel, which features a main heat chamber and a moisture zone recycling circuit. A key feature of the drier is internal ventilation with high-efficiency slide-mounted mobile cones: these ensure airflow is kept perfectly in line with the holes in the products being dried.

Renowned for efficiency and innovation, Sacmi Heavy Clay has once again proven itself to be a reliable partner even in the difficult task of integrating new solutions on existing manufacturing set-ups, with much of the success also stemming from close customer involvement all the way from the initial design stage to the start-up of the plant in its new configuration.
