Sacmi at Qualicer 2010
Event to take place from 15th to 16th February at the “Camara de Comercio de Castellon” (Spain)
On the occasion of the XI World Congress on ceramic tiles, Qualicer ’10, SACMI will be presenting a report on an innovative laser cutting process for ceramic slabs: this presentation will be held on 16th February at 17.05 in Room 3.

The R&D manager of the Ceramic Division - Claudio Ricci – will be illustrating the results of a research that aims to overcome the limits imposed by traditional tile cutting methods via the application of a new laser process.
With the goal of meeting demand for new construction materials, the ceramic industry is placing an ever-greater focus on large tile sizes and slabs, the manufacturing of which, on the one hand, simplifies the production line yet also requires the development of efficient and flexible cutting technology that allows a wide range of smaller sizes to be made.

The methods currently used by the ceramic industry (e.g. cutting with diamond-tipped wheels, scoring and splitting or water-jetting) have several inherent problems, such as the low quality of post-cut edges, a high percentage of rejects, low output rates and high maintenance. To overcome these problems Sacmi is investigating a wholly different solution, which, using a powerful CO2 laser optimised for the industrial cutting of ceramic tiles, provides a direct, precise, defect-free cut along the entire length of the slab.

The results of the research will be presented on the occasion of this key Spanish event.
