Sacmi flies to Egypt in search of “Glory”

New plant for El Shark. Sacmi confirms leadership status in the country

The name of Egyptian company El Shark's all-new plant certainly has a forward-looking, optimistic ring to it: going by the Italian name Gloria (i.e. Glory), it was successfully started up last July. Featuring a daily output capacity of 15,000 square metres of floor and wall tiles, it is equipped with three Sacmi-supplied PH 3020 presses plus two 100-metre-long kilns.

Pre-prepared for a future redoubling of capacity – clear confirmation that the Egyptian company has high expectations for this project – the plant is characterised by the in-line set-up of the machines, from raw material storage to the sorting line. This boosts both functionality and flexibility and also makes maintenance tasks easier.

In addition to presses and kilns, Sacmi has also supplied other crucial elements of the plant, from raw material dosing to mills, from spray-drying to horizontal dryers, from glaze preparation to handling and dust abatement. This key order, then, confirms Sacmi’s role as a strategic industrial partner for Egyptian companies and reinforces its leadership position even further.

A young industry player, El Shark successfully handled, together with Sacmi technicians, every stage of assembly and start-up: the plant was officially inaugurated on 24th July 2010 at the Fairmont Hotel in Cairo when the “Gloria” project was presented to all the major distributors. The decision to start up the plant in the middle of summer was linked to El Shark’s subsequent participation, as an affirmed player, in the key ceramic fairs, above all the one of Cairo, which is the most important point of reference for the internal market, usually held in March.
