Sama: an intelligent robot for intelligent pressing

Sama Maschinenbau, member of the Sacmi Group and world-leading supplier of machines and complete plants for the tableware industry, has introduced new technology for the improved finishing of large flat tableware items produced with isostatic pressing systems. The machine is able to recognise non-round articles with acute angles and irregular or wavy edging, which, of course, require special treatment. The new OFM 8 – easily installable in any plant – can be used with oval, flat and rectangular surfaces with a radius angle of 10-15 millimetres (features which now regard some 80% of products on the market).
No special programs are needed to run the OFM 8, which is, among other things, universal and adaptable to any size. It features, in fact, a meccatronic profile scanner that automatically sets the most suitable machining program. No time-consuming article positioning procedures are required either because the meccatronic system detects shape automatically, thus allowing different article types to be machined one after the other. The system can operate with a maximum inter-spindle clearance of 620 mm, thus allowing large pieces to be machined.
