Sama presents new machine for ceramic insulators

From body preparation to extrusion, modelling, glazing, cutting and finishing: Sama’s latest machine for ceramic insulators covers the entire production process. A significant step forward, then, and one that was also the focus of this Sacmi Group company’s participation at the Munich-held Ceramitec 2012 fair.

This new production system for large ceramic insulators features a numerical control device that carries out both external shaping and drilling (maximum size: length 4500 mm, diameter 1100 mm). After shaping and drying, another dedicated machine carries out automatic glazing of the insulator.

All the parameters – such as speed, in-glaze dip time or post-glaze holding time – can be set via the machine controller and saved for future use. The only part of the process not included is firing, which is carried out by systems provided by Riedhammer, another Sacmi Group company.

Sama has also introduced a fully automatic production line for the isostatic pressing of cups with robot-completed attachment of pressure-cast handles. At the start of 2012 the company began producing extruders for the manufacture of clay pipes, a logical follow-through from the extensive experience gained in the production of extruders for ceramic products.
