Saturnia goes for a new LPP press made by Sama

New order to include the OFM universal finisher, the most versatile in the range

Founded in Corchiano in 1966, in the heart of the Civita Castellana industrial district, Saturnia has installed and started up a complete production line supplied by Sama, the Sacmi Group company specialising in the design of advanced tableware solutions. The heart of the line is the all-new LPP-1S-38 press, a part of the isostatic press range that offers outstanding versatility, flexibility and efficiency.

Downstream from the press lies the OFM-8-38 automatic finisher, the most versatile of the finishers supplied by Sama as it can handle dry finishing of all item types: round or multi-angular, square or rectangular, plate or dish, but also asymmetric articles or ones with irregular edges. In practice, it’s a "universal finisher" that’s suitable for all articles obtained from the pressing of spray-dried porcelain powder.

The winning feature of the OFM finisher remains the extreme simplicity of product changeovers: the edge detection system requires no intervention on the part of the operator, reducing task times considerably.

In addition to advantages in terms of versatility and flexibility in the manufacturing of quality ceramic, the plant’s reduced energy consumption and the consequent benefits in terms of environmental-friendliness should also be pointed out.

The new line– started up successfully in October 2014 – has an output capacity of up to 500 pieces per hour (for articles with a diameter of between 110 and 380 mm). The line can also cope with the pressing and unfired finishing of special shapes up to a maximum size of 410 mm. With this investment decision, Saturnia brings the total number of isostatic presses installed in its factory to six, giving an output capacity of 14 million pieces a year. That performance makes it one of the leading European firms in the industry, at the service of the catering field and the household porcelain market.
