Shanghai Expo gets under way

Sacmi supplies floor and wall tiling for the ‘city of Bologna’ stand

Great expectations for this awesome event, due to start on 1st May: the area dedicated to the planet’s ‘most liveable’ cities will see Bologna play a starring role, alongside Venice.

China’s Universal Exhibition will last until October and aims to draw a staggering 70 million visitors.

This is a world-class event – and one to which Sacmi Imola has made a significant contribution by providing the large-size porcelain floor and wall tiles for the hall hosting the ‘city of Bologna’ exhibition.

The flooring consists of the “Made” product, a 12 mm thick coloured full-body tile with graphite shading obtained using Sacmi Continua multi-layer technology. This powder compaction technology allows for a decoration that is not just limited to the surface of the tile but is, rather, total, giving full-body effects that are unhindered by grating geometry and eliminating the problem of powder re-mix and reduced definition of effects.

From “Made”, then, to “Concrete” for wall tiling; this is colour-coordinated to match the flooring yet, at just 4.8 mm, much thinner. Despite the greatly reduced thickness, Sacmi technology ensures the tiles are once again very large: slabs measuring 120x60 cm, 120x40, 120x30, 120x20 and 120x10 cm.

This will be quite a showcase for Sacmi in China, a country that has been a key market for the Group since the 1980s. And within that market Sacmi has reinforced its presence and visibility via the opening of company branches so as to provide customers with a service that is fast, effective and comprehensive.
