Whiteware Technology – today’s trends

Sacmi holds 7th convention for the Sanitaryware industry: 29th September 2008

“Technology, automation, energy saving: introducing the H.E.R.O. project”. This is the name of the 7th convention on technological trends in the sanitaryware industry organized by Sacmi and to be held in its shareholder assembly meeting room at its Imola headquarters on 29th September. The day starts with a guided tour of the factory and Sacmi’s laboratory where the specialized staff of the company’s R&D department are based. This is a fascinating opportunity to gain a preview of Sacmi’s new products – some of which will be presented at Tecnargilla 2008 – and attend high-pressure casting tests.

High-pressure casting is of course the leading technology in the sanitaryware industry today. This technology has already generated a significant level of market interest and indicates promising future prospects for medium-term development. Not by chance, following a speech to be given on “Globalization in the production of sanitaryware: production costs, current trends, future predictions” to be given by Andy Skillen – Publishing Director of “Asian Ceramics” magazine – the audience will be attracted by an account given by Greg Nichols, “Strategic Product Supply Manager” at Caroma Industries, Australia. The title of his speech is “Pressure Casting and Robotic Handling – Technological: Elegance or a Sustainability Necessity” to underline, above all, the synergy which has been created between the new high-pressure casting technology and installation of machines for robotized handling.

Following the next presentation which focuses on the interesting investment opportunities currently on offer in South America – given by José Mario Gutierrez Peña, Managing Director of Sanitarios Lamosa, Mexico – attention will turn to the technology itself with a speech by Nicholas Booth, President of Betta Sanitaryware, the internationally renowned South African company and long-standing customer of the Sacmi Group. Booth will point out the great advantages that high pressure casting can offer manufacturers; a revolutionary technology which the President of Betta Sanitaryware describes as being “somewhere between myth and reality”.
The convention will draw to a close with the speech of Denis Tilomirov, Technical Director at the Russian company ZAO Zyzranskaja Keramica, who will give a detailed picture of the various stages in the setting up of their high-pressure sanitaryware casting plant.
