China, plastic and rubber production booming

Sacmi heads for Chinaplas 2008 together with Assocomaplast

Every year China consumes 40 million tons of plastic and 38 million tons of rubber. With figures like that, the country is fast becoming one of the biggest consumer markets in the industry. Moreover, local industry is also booming, providing international players in the industry with excellent opportunities for penetration of the Chinese market.

The plastic and rubber businesses recently converged on Chinaplas 2008, the international fair dedicated to industrial plastic and rubber, held from 17th to 20th April at the new Shanghai exhibition centre. Sacmi – which participated at the event with its sales department – offered visitors a video presentation of the CCM 48, a continuous rotary compression cap-making machine. Belonging to an innovative series of machines developed by Sacmi Imola for the plastics industry, the CCM 48 is especially suitable for customers looking to achieve high output (e.g. mineral water bottlers).

With respect to the wider packaging industry, the trend within the plastic caps business is particularly positive and has thus been attentively nurtured by the Sacmi Imola R&D department. The latter, in fact, has developed a production method (Continuous Compression Moulding, hence the CCM tag for this innovative series) that has demonstrated itself to be outstandingly efficient and economical in terms of both investment and management. Hence the idea of proposing a video that would allow Chinese customers to appreciate and better assess the production performance of the proposed model, the CCM 48.

Sacmi was at Shanghai in partnership with Assocomaplast, the association that unites Italy’s most important plastic/rubber machine and mould constructors. It’s worth noting that – compared to the last edition of Chinaplas – the Italians were decidedly out in force, occupying a complete hall with around fifty exhibitors and also bringing together all firms now based stably in China under the roof of the Shangahi Expo Center. With economic growth in double figures for several years now, China is, in terms of volume, the world’s number one plastics processing country. The goal, then, is to extend the range of Italian-made installed machines in China even further.
