A line for the manufacture of modern, ergonomic-grip aluminium disposable caps designed to ensure maximum seal pressure and, at the same time, provide enhanced ergonomics and practicality. This is what the Pelliconi Group – a closures multinational that produces over 30 billion aluminium and crown caps a year – recently ordered from Sacmi, thus strengthening a decades-long industrial partnership between two highly successful companies from the Bologna area.
Already the supplier of the aluminium cap liner-making and application machine, Sacmi has grasped the opportunity presented by Pelliconi’s growing business in China to provide the Group (based in Ozzanodell’Emilia near Bologna) with lines that produce the modern Maxi P-26 pull closure: solutions that make both cap and liner and apply the practical ergonomic-grip pull ring.
Designed to ensure output rates in the order of 1200 caps/minutes, the production line consists of a vertical press in which metal sheets are made into caps and a downstream PMV unit that applies the liner. Lastly comes the RCM machine: this moulds and applies the plastic ring with tab, a feature that makes these closures both convenient and smart-looking as the pull-tab can be made in different colours (the decoration potential can also extend to the cap, made of an organoleptically neutral material suitable for beer, soft and energy drinks).
To ensure they achieve their full growth and development potential in Asia, Pelliconi decided to place their trust in Sacmi for several reasons. For example, the Sacmi Group’s technological know-how, developed over decades of industrial experience in perfecting complete metal closure solutions, is simply unique. Over the last few years, those solutions have been improved further to ensure maximum upstream and downstream integration, total quality control and further marketing and communication opportunities thanks to cap decoration and embossing technology. It’s no chance occurrence, in fact, that Pelliconi had already purchased the Sacmi liner application machine, thus laying the foundations on which to complete its manufacturing facility and so provide the Chinese market with a prompt response to its new needs.
