German company Pano wins 34th Packaging Award

Pano’s “Blue Seal” line makes brilliant use of Sacmi’s high-potential PMA 24L

“Blue Seal” is a twist-off cap production line for glass containers; the caps have a ring seal made by Sacmi’s cutting-edge PMA24L using the material PROVALIN by ACTEGA.

With this project Pano GmbH has been awarded one of the 21 prizes up for grabs at the “34th German Packaging Awards 2011”. The prize-giving took place on the occasion of Brau Beviale in Nuremburg, Europe’s beverage technology fair.

The German Packaging Award is given not merely to the best industrial projects but also, and above all, to projects of outstanding innovation as it needs to be taken into consideration that the metal and twist off packaging market is particularly traditional and has seen little in the way of process and product innovation for decades.

Nevertheless, it’s an area in which Pano – headed by Wulf Eberhardt, who received the prize – glimpsed an opportunity for change, a change also suggested by new European standards concerning the migration of contaminants in oily contents. Indeed, these new standards have highlighted all the limitations of PVC-based Plastisol. The teamwork between Pano and Sacmi, begun four years ago, resulted in the German company purchasing two Sacmi-built PMA24L machines, clear evidence of a particularly farsighted policy designed to be exceptional and attract the attention of the stern award jury, called upon to examine no less than 54 different projects – short-listed from among an even higher number of potential candidates – and choose the best 21.
The various award winners will later go on to compete in the WorldStar Competition organised by the World Packaging Organization.
