“Over the last ten years China has been SACMI’s most important market; even now it continues to give us enormous satisfaction by accounting for over 20% of sales, a figure expected to rise in 2007”. So says Vezio Bernardi, Sales Manager of SACMI’s “Closures” Business Unit. And as might be expected, Sacmi will be at the PETnology conference in Shanghai to present key Group-developed innovations for the bottling world; more specifically, that means new technologies applied to machines and plastic cap design innovations.
Following China Plast, held last April, Pro-pack in July and the recent Brew & Beverage, SACMI will once again be in China on 30th and 31st October at the Intercontinental Hotel in Shanghai’s Pudong district. PETnology - a conference held on a different continent at every edition - will be hosting all the major companies in the beverage industry, including, of course, the SACMI Group.
“At the conference”, explains Bernardi, “SACMI will present all the latest developments concerning its plastic cap compression machines. These use a process that is the very antithesis of that used on injection machines: as the name implies, the caps are made not by injecting the plastic but by compressing it”.
A few words on design. During its many years of experience in the industry SACMI has not only developed the wealth of skills needed to design and build innovative, competitive production systems. It has also unavoidably gained an in-depth understanding of cap design and has ended up introducing innovations in this regard too. “Over recent years SACMI’s laboratories have made hundreds of cap prototypes”, elucidates Bernardi, “yet our goal is not, seeing as we do not sell licenses, to gain advantage from this know-how. It is, rather, to provide our customers with a more comprehensive service and ensure our machines remain the best the market has to offer. In other words, to continue being a highly attractive production proposition”.
A new product that will be presented during the conference illustrates the point clearly: Chinese customers will be shown the advantages of the ML27, a cap designed in such a way as to save weight while providing improved properties, especially in the “anti-tamper” field.
SACMI’s services to the Chinese beverage industry are provided by a team of over twenty people based in Shanghai; they guarantee assistance, spare parts and also provide sales support for machines and complete lines.
