5/28/2004 Sacmi to host an international medical conference The symposium, promoted by the Montecatone Foundation, will also be sponsored by Sacmi.
“Stem cells and treatment of spinal cord injuries: reality and prospects” is the name of the medial conference Sacmi will be sponsoring and hosting, this coming 24th June, at its Imola-based Conference Hall. The symposium - conceived and promoted by Fondazione Montecatone Onlus (Montecatone Foundation charity) and the Montecatone Rehabilitation Institute - is intended for health workers involved in the treatment and rehabilitation of persons with spinal cord injuries. This conference aims to bring together major international experts in the field: they will be illustrating the progress that has been made as regards research into the use of stem cells for the treatment of spinal cord injuries. The Region of Emilia-Romagna, the Commune of Imola, the University of Bologna, the Italian Paraplegia Medical Society and the Italian Society of Physical and Rehabilitative Medicine shall be taking part at sponsorship level. Numerous, highly qualified speakers will be attending the event: Sergio Aito, director of the Unità Spinale Unipolare of Florence and European Vice-President of ISCOS (International Spinal Cord Society); Alfredo Gorio, Professor at the University of Milan; Anna Grazia Giulianelli, coordinator of the Montecatone Rehabilitation Institute social integration department - Imola (Bo); Susanne Hermanns, Scientific Director of Neuraxo Biotec; Salvatore Mancuso, Professor at the Catholic University of Sacro Cuore di Roma; Mauro Menarini coordinator at the Montecatone Rehabilitation Institute social integration department, Imola (Bo); Michal Schwartz Professor at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot – Israel; Carlo Ventura, Professor at the University of Bologna; Angelo Vescovi - San Raffaele Hospital of Milan and Professor at the Milan’s Bicocca University.
The meeting will be chaired by Giulio Cicognani, President of Fondazione Montecatone Onlus and General Manager of the Sacmi Group.
