For the rim treatment of isostatic pressed articles like plates, salad bowls, oval plates, casseroles, baking pans, square plates, rectangular plates and similar articles with or without festoon and relief different fettling machines / rim treatment machines may be used. With double head presses combinations are possible.
Two principles are available:
1) Universal rim finishing system OFM:
This machine operates with a rotating roundtable like the standard plant type RFM 8. The rim treatment is done by grinding belts (optionally grinding discs for round items) and the treatment of the edges with sponge rolls. At the feeding unit a deburring device is installed and at the unloading unit an article foot sponge and polishing unit. After the treatment the plants may be executed with piling tables, piling belts with or without automatic firing batt distribution.
Advantages:
- simple mechanical and electrical design
- several fettling stations for reduced treatment time
- complicated shapes are possible up to an edge radius of >=5mm
- for round articles as quick as the press maximum capacity
- easy to operate and easy adjustable (no programming knowledge needed)
- short change over times for product change
- favourable price/output relation
Precondition for the application:
- no articles with a difference of more than 20 mm in the height of the rim possible
- the flash of the pressed articles must be deburred completely
2) Robot article rim treatment systems for nonround and complex article geometries:
The article rim treatment is done by grinding discs, grinding belts or highspeed milling tools and the treatment of the edges by sponge rolls. Depending on the execution the feeding unit may dispose of a deburring device and the unloading device of an article foot sponge and polishing unit. After the treatment the plants may be executed with piling tables, piling belts with or without automatic burning batt distribution.
Normally, point-to-point programming is applied. Optionally, it is also possible to program the article contour fully automatically by 3D-scanner. The advantage of this method is especially the time saving and reaching the highest quality in rim treatment.

- simple mechanical design
- no pollution due to falling into the chute
- extremely difficult contours even with negative small radii can be fettled
- no need of programming knowledge for the robots
- no need to teach in the articles contour point by point
- manufacturing of articles with sharp edges is possible
- all articles treated in steps by 3 or optional 4 robots and a precise equal treatment is safeguarded
- short change over times for product change
