Performance in the 2018 financial year - Letter from the Chairman
“SACMI is preparing to celebrate its first centenary in 2019. It does so by archiving, in the last 5 years, some of the best operating results in its history, with revenues that are confirmed, even in 2018, higher than 1.4 billion euros (1.44 billion), shareholders' equity in further growth, to 668 million, and a profit of 50 million euros.
This performance is all the more significant in the international economic context, where the initial prospects of brilliant continuity with respect to previous years, indicated by economists on all markets, have progressively lost momentum during the year, highlighting in the evolution of the economic cycle a marked and substantial weakening of growth indicators. 2018 remains one of the best results ever, with an improved net operating margin compared to last year, confirming the positive trend undertaken with previous years.
These numbers reinforce a principle - that of an intergenerational company - which represents one of the core values of "doing business", a path that, thanks to continuous innovation, financial solidity and attention to the community, allows us to generate shared value not only for the company but for the whole of our territory. The values of cooperative democracy, which marked the stages of the birth and growth of SACMI in the twentieth century, are now projected into the future thanks to a policy of strong and constant investment in research activities.
In 2018, investment in R&D increased by 5 million to 42 million euros (over the five-year period, we are talking about more than 220 million euros in resources). A policy that is reflected in patent data: since 2014, the SACMI Group has protected 150 inventions, filing more than 700 national patents. The SACMI brand and logo are protected in over 100 countries worldwide.
It should be noted that, as early as 2017, the SACMI financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the IAS/IFRS international accounting standards of the IASB (International Accounting Standard Board), which, while maintaining the same fidelity and transparency of the data, guarantee international comparability of the entries produced and recorded". Paolo Mongardi, President of SACMI Imola S.C.
