LINING MACHINES

The task of the liner is to ensure closures proper sealing and, in some cases of highly carbonated beverages, the retention of CO2 levels. SACMI has been a pioneer in this field, being the first to launch the liner moulding technology in the early ‘70s.

Prouction of liners for plastic closures

In order to ensure proper sealing and retention of CO2 levels with highly carbonated beverages we mould a PE/EVA liner into the cap’s shell. For that purpose we have developed two distinct and separate technologies, whose name is self-descriptive: in-shell moulding and out-shell moulding.

The process begins with the preparation of individual pellets, which are then placed into the cap shell before moulding the liner to a pre-defined profile. The machine productivity rate depends on the type of resin used and on liner weight and profile. The liner quality is checked inline through a quality inspection system.

PMV - in-shell lining machine for aluminum closures

Automatic lining machines designed to extrude pellet-form material (e.g. PVCfree, PE, EVA), cut it into single doses, insert them into aluminum screw closures and mould the liner according to a clearly defined profile.
Machine productivity is strongly influenced by the material type and the weight and profile of the liner.
By using PVC FREE raw materials the machine is suitable for moulding liners directly inside the shell of the cap.
Resins allow manufacturers to go beyond the limits of PVC (such as toxicity, smell emissions) offering in this way a new solution for the bottle closures  market.
The in-shell technology allows to shape the liners in order to maximize closure perfomances and reduce the compound weight.

The use of PVC-free materials to make twist-off cap liners is becoming more and more popular with producers, especially in the baby food sector.
We developed a twist off cap solution that allows users to make annular-profile liners inside the cap starting with insertion of an annular dose of molten PVC-FREE plastic.
It eliminates the Plastisol/ PVC migration issues, especially when used in contact with oily and fatty food. No curing oven required.
